First it was Myanmar Cyclone, then Sichuan Earthquake...

Over the weekend and the Vesak holiday, I have been watching the various fund raising show by China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. All the different tv stations and celebrities stop their work and programs and came together to sing and raise $$$. No life-threathening stunts or anything fancy, just singing and picking up phones of donataion.

I commented to my bro-in-law, why I don't see Singapore doing such event? If in Taiwan, 3 competing media stations can come together for 3-4 hours to sing and raise fund, why Singapore with just one monopoly company haven't done anything? He replied, maybe because these countries are nearer to Sichuan? But I recalled back in Dec 2004, about 300,000 people died during the Indian Ocean Tsunami. Hong Kong and Taiwan had similar fund raising shows but I don't remember Singapore having a fund raising event for that. Isn't Thailand close to us?

Anyway even if it is $10 dollars, it will make a different. We have 4 million population in Singapore. $10 each = $40 million. You make a difference. We don't have to be there to make a difference.

World's biggest squid

No demand, then no supply. If there's a demand, of course people will supply.

By hook or by crook...

Title : World's biggest squid reveals 'beach ball' eyes
Date : 30 April 2008 1345 hrs (SST)
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_asiapacific/view/344660/1/.html

WELLINGTON : The largest squid ever caught began to reveal its secrets Wednesday, including eyes the size of beach balls that one scientist said were likely the biggest ever known in the animal kingdom.

The 495-kilogram (1,090-pound) colossal squid -- accidentally caught by a fishing boat in Antarctic waters in February 2007 -- is slowly thawing under the fascinated gaze of a team of scientists at the Museum of New Zealand.

While the defrosting was taking longer than expected Wednesday, one of the earliest revelations were eyes measuring 27 centimetres (11 inches) across -- about 11 times the size of a human eye -- with lenses of 10 to 12 centimetres in diameter.

"We saw two of the most sensational eyes possible," Auckland University of Technology marine biologist Steve O'Shea said.

Those figures are based on the current collapsed state of the eyes.

If the squid were alive, said Professor Eric Warrant of the University of Lund in Sweden, the eyes would probably measure about 40 centimetres across, "about the size of a beach ball."

"These are without doubt the largest eyes that have ever been studied and probably among the largest eyes that have existed during the history of the animal kingdom," he wrote in a blog on the Wellington-based museum's website.

These would help the squid to locate prey in the dark of its habitat 1,000 metres (3,300 feet) or more below the surface of Antarctic waters.

The exact dimensions of the squid will not be determined until it is fully defrosted later Wednesday but it was believed to be eight metres (26 feet) or more in length.

Two long tentacles carry up to 25 rotating hooks each and eight arms each contain up to 19 hooks used to capture prey and bring it to its beaked mouth.

The sex of the squid was still to be determined, although it was thought likely to be a female, which grow larger than males.

But O'Shea and his colleagues believe that larger squid still lurk in the southern ocean depths.

The squid's lower beak measures around 40 centimetres across, while other beaks have been found -- usually in the stomach of predator sperm whales -- measuring up to 49 centimetres.

O'Shea said it is possible that colossal squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni) may grow to up to 750 kilograms but there was not yet enough information to be sure.

"When I said in 2003 that colossal squid could grow to 500 kilograms no one believed me, I was ridiculed, people laughed at me," he said.

The progress of the thawing is being shown live by webcams on the museum's website.

The scientist is also keeping a blog to update. Read it here

Mayday

It rawls to have a Rocker for a father~

-From Down To Earth Singapore Concert 26th April 2008

Mayday Down To Earth 2008 Spore Concert

As you can see... I am still VERY awake at 4.46am in the morning!! Too high after the concert, I also suspect all the jasmine milk bubble tea I drank has something to do with it as well~ Super awake now.... (0_0|||)

If Mayday is not getting richer, then the sponsors are getting more generous!! The set-up super nicely done up! I must say this space-ship like bridge that connected the two walkway was the highlight! It even went up & down, damn grand!

And I think they hired a real good lighting expert this time. The lighting effect for the whole concert, especially the walk-ways were nicely designed and done-up

Btw, the ticket caused me $151. Usually I damn stingy, save and thrift like hell. But Mayday concert cannot miss. Don't ask me why? At 27 going 28 years old, I am still going for concerts, where I scream and jump while 5 men (strangers) are jamming away. If I accumulated all the money I spent on concerts, I think can go somewhere far for a nice holiday liao.

I think I am not the only crazy one. There were about 8,000 people present just now. Balance of males and females. See some uncles but most 16~40 years old. Everyone was dancing away. You will understand what I mean after you see this video.....

Mass LOVE

Mass 温柔 KTV

Die hard fan? I used to hate it when others label me with these. But now... I think I can't be bother. ha.... Who cares? Who cares to explain?

People spend hundreds, thousands or millions of dollars in search of happiness, but never find it. If spending $151 can give me 3 hours of happiness & hope, why not? You might say it is short-lived, but what in life isn't?

Happiness. Hope. Dream. Love.
All cannot be seen, heard, touched or bought.
They are what you make them to be.
They are what you believe them to be.

I don't want to forget this.
I want to remember.
To be happy, To dream and hope
Even at 27 years old. Or 57 years old. Or 107 years old.

Till I die. I will continue to dream & hope. RnR \m/

Mayday Last Jump @ Genting (19 April 2008)

It has been a long time since my last trip to Genting... I can't remember when.. I think 4-5 years ago. Not much changes... look pretty much the same!

But the memorable thing is... it is the FIRST TIME the 10 birdies went on a trip together! hahaha.... We had to wait like 6 years for this trip to happen.... so it was really kinda cool~

We took a coach on Fri night and reach Genting around 5.30am. We found out we could only check-in at 2pm. So we tried our very best to killed time... roam around, enjoyed the natural air~ I think everyone was damn tired... =__=

Of course, we went with a mission! Mayday Last Jump! Actually we will be attend the Singapore concert this coming weekend, but what the heck. The price was ok and it was a great chance for the 10 of us to go on a trip together.

I must say the officials were really strict (and rude) and didn't allowed us to stand up. Oh! Come on! Watch Mayday concert sitting down?!! You must be mad!! Anyway I think they soon gave up... haha.... everyone was standing loh! What can they do?
Maybe it was the size of the venue. Or maybe it was pretty enclosed. Or maybe it has been a while since Mayday was in Msia. The concert was like a GIANT KTV session!!! Kudos to Msian fans!! They sang along to almost all the songs, even those that were not so radio-friendly! It felt good~ d(^^)b Mayday Rawls!!! Malaysian Rawls!!

hehe... I like this shot the most. A sweeper auntie helped us took this. Though it is not well-taken, i think damn got feel~

To Birdieflock+cock!
To Mayday!
To Music & Friendship & Love & Dream

Rock on! And ever more
